'Play it Pink' to raise funds for breast cancer research
Clinton residents can take in some good Mississippi College Choctaw basketball and support breast cancer research by attending "Play it Pink," set for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Baptist Healthplex. The men's and women's teams will play the University of Texas at Tyler, with the girls starting off the afternoon and boys' playing at 3. All proceeds go to the Central Mississippi Steel Magnolias affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure breast cancer movement and the Deanna Favre Hope Foundation "We're asking everyone to wear pink - both males and females," said Healthplex programs director Jan Cossitt. The afternoon also includes face painting for the kids, a spirit contest and recognition of all cancer survivors at the event. Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for students with IDs, and free for kids 12 and younger. "During the game, you will be given an opportunity to make a donation for breast cancer research," Cossitt said. "You will receive a ticket for your donation, and then there will be a drawing for a fabulous door prize during the girls' game." "Play it Pink" is part of "Think Pink," a NCAA-wide initiative to promote breast cancer awareness, said Susan Musselwhite, MC's assistant athletic director. The student athletic advisory committee is organizing the event, she said. "We want to promote awareness of Play it Pink so that we can make a bigger donation to Susan G. Komen," Musselwhite said. Cossitt said students planning the event want to get the entire community involved. "This is going to be so much fun," she said. "Any breast cancer survivors in the crowd will be recognized," Musselwhite said.' For more information, contact the MC athletic department at (601) 925-3000. By Ruth Ingram |
