Deanna Favre to run the Bellin for Hope Foundationby Mike Hoeft June 4, 2007 Deanna Favre will pound the pavement for breast-cancer research Saturday by joining an expected field of 11,000 runners and walkers in the annual Bellin Run. The wife of Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre will make her Bellin Run debut in the 10K race. The Deanna Favre Hope Foundation raises money and awareness in the fight against breast cancer. “Obviously, Brett and I have an incredible connection with the Green Bay community,” she said. “The tremendous amount of community involvement surrounding the Bellin Run made it an event I wanted to participate in, and I felt it was a good fit with my foundation.” This year’s run participants had the option of making a donation to the Hope Foundation when submitting registration forms. Participants can register until 7:45 a.m. on race day. The race starts at 8 a.m. outside Bellin Health, 744 S. Webster Ave. Donations are in additional to the registration fee for the run. As in years past, a portion of all registration fees will benefit the Bellin College of Nursing Scholarship fund. “With the expected turnout of runners, that greatly increases the exposure for the Hope Foundation,” said Dana Bzdawka of the Bellin Run. Favre said all funds received by the Hope Foundation will support breast cancer education and breast imaging and diagnosis services for all women, including those who are medically underserved. Favre also will be available to meet Deanna Favre from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Bellin’s spaghetti dinner and expo. Foundation apparel will be for sale. A limited number of the popular pink Packers hats have been donated by the Bellin Foundation. Favre will autograph the hats for a $40 donation to the Hope Foundation. During the awards ceremony, which begins at 10:15 a.m., she will accept a check from the Bellin Run for the money raised. The Bellin Run is the nation’s seventh-largest 10K race. |
